Health Promotion Specialist, Corporate Services, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

Salary: $30.54/hr to $35.95/hr


* Leader, coordinator, and resource in the health promotion activities of the health unit

* Provides direction, leadership and coordination in the application of health promotion theories to assist program in meeting Mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines

* Reviews most current literature on best practice in public health programming, population health concepts, behaviour change theory and social marketing concepts to help determine program priorities

* Monitors, analyzes and interprets information including health status data, community needs assessments and current research data to inform program planning processes

* Conducts environmental scans of national and provincial initiatives to inform program planning processes

* Utilizes the above information to provide leadership and support to program planning, implementation and evaluation

* Provides leadership and direction in the development of program policies, position papers and strategic directions

* Provides direction and leadership in seeking out, applying for and implementing health promotion research projects

* Supports and encourages collaboration on health promotion initiatives across service areas, with other health units and other community partners

* Provide guidance and support to the development of health promotion resources

Demonstrated Knowledge and Skills

* Advanced knowledge of issues, strategies and best practice related to the application of population health concepts and theories and concepts of health promotion including advocacy, health education, policy development, and community developed health promotion

* Ability to interpret and make recommendations on bodies of research in the area of focus

* Well-developed program planning, development and evaluation skills

* Advanced oral and written communications skills

* Well developed leadership skills

* Well developed facilitation and presentation skills

* Ability to work independently as well as with a multidisciplinary team and community partners

* Strong work organization and time management skills

* Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office products


* Masters degree in health promotion, behavioral science, health science, health psychology or equivalent as determined by the Service Area Director

* Minimum three years of public health or community experience, or equivalent as determined by the Service Area Director

* Prior leadership experience required

* Ability to travel to locations away from assigned office in a timely manner
