Public Health Nurse, Alcohol, Drugs and Addictions, Peel Health

Peel Health's Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Division. 

The Alcohol, Drugs and Addictions program requires a creative,
self-starting and persuasive leader with experience or an interest in
developing health education campaigns.  The individual works in a
self-directed manner within a collaborative team environment to design
and deliver drug and alcohol awareness programs for school and

Key responsibilities include

  • Participating in the development and implementation of health
    education initiatives to fulfill identified needs in Peel schools and
  • Facilitating integrated relationships between the Public Health
    department and community agencies to coordinate and deliver
    comprehensive harm reduction programs
  • Providing health education through displays and presentations to community groups

Examples of job activities (corresponding to the responsibilities listed above) may include

  • Presentations to educators, parent associations and other groups to outline and promote Peel Health programming to schools
  • Build and maintain networks to help identify gaps in service and
    opportunities for program growth, and recommend and/or develop creative
    solutions in response to audience needs
  • Research and develop audience appropriate health education materials

Interested candidates should possess:

  • Knowledge in prevention of alcohol and drug abuse and other addictions
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in the
    areas of health promotion especially social marketing campaigns and
    health education programs, community development and project management
  • Ability to persuasively communicate complex
    health messages and information in everyday language in both spoken and
    written forms
  • Strong assessment, facilitation, organizational, problem solving, presentation and planning skills
  • Strong computer skills in MS Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Peel's diverse community

Educational requirements:  A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalency as recognized by a Canadian University.

It should be noted that this position does not typically involve direct delivery of service to children.
