Summary of Duties
Public Health Services, City of Hamilton is seeking a .6 FTE Physical Activity Specialist for one year temporary contract.
Reporting to the Manager of Chronic Disease Prevention - Children and
Youth, plan, develop, implement and evaluate physical activity
initiatives in keeping with the requirements of the Physical Activity
Promotion Program Standard under the Health Protection & Promotion
Act, Section 7, policies of the City and approved budget. The position
involves extensive community liaison and mobilization, analysis of
physical activity issues and recommendation of physical activity policy
options, consultation to staff and the community on physical activity
promotion strategies and collaboration with other staff in the
development of integrated lifestyle programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and work experience in health promotion,
community mobilization and policy research, analysis and development
normally acquired through the completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in
Health Promotion, Physical Education, Kinesiology or Health Science
with sound knowledge of physical activity promotion, health behaviour
and behaviour change theory, health policy analysis and policy
- Experience in computerized work environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and database software.
- Demonstrated ability in identifying physical activity programming
needs priorities in keeping with the requirements of the Physical
Activity Promotion Program Standard under the Health Protection &
- Well-developed research, reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Must keep up-to-date on innovative physical activity health
promotion strategies and effective physical activity health promotion
strategies reported in the literature and in networking with peers and
experts in the field.
Salary: Grade 4, $29.209-$30.497-$31.786-$33.076-$34.364 per hour
Hours: 0-24 per week
Note: This vacancy is due to a project with a term of approximately 13 months.
