The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) has exciting
opportunities available for dynamic Health Promoters. Reporting to a
Manager in the Health Promotion Division, the Health Promoter is an
integral member of a multidisciplinary team. The Health Promoter
applies their expertise in determinants of health, health promotion and
community development to support programming under the Mandatory Health
Programs and Services Guidelines and the Health Protection and
Promotion Act. The Health Promoter identifies program priorities by
reviewing existing epidemiological, behavioural and socio-demographic
data, and thorough assessments of community assets and needs. The
Health Promoter maintains current knowledge of the literature and best
practices and critically appraises research to assist with setting
priorities, targeting programs and developing public health strategies.
Interested applicants must have a Masters degree in health promotion,
behavioural science or a related discipline, and experience in health
promotion, community mobilization, program planning, implementation and
evaluation. The applicant will have a minimum of two years experience
in group facilitation techniques and a strong understanding of the
principles of population health, determinants of health, community
development, social marketing, communications strategies and policy
development. A satisfactory criminal reference check is required. The
successful candidate must have access to a reliable vehicle and a
current Ontario driver's licence.
