The Middlesex-London Health Unit, as the lead public health agency for the Smoke Free Ontario Strategy involving nine Health Units across Southwestern Ontario, invites applications for the Southwest Tobacco Control Area Network Manager (SW TCAN Manager) position. This is a contract position subject to continued funding that is expected to be in place until March 31, 2008 and may be renewed.
Serving as one of six regional Tobacco Area Network managers in the province, the SW TCAN Manager will coordinate the development and implementation of regional and provincial strategies related to the Ontario Tobacco Strategy's Smoke-Free Ontario Campaign in collaboration with the nine SW Public Health Units and the Ministry of Health Promotion. The successful candidate will provide leadership to assist in the delivery of a wide range of prevention, protection, and cessation programs and services under the Smoke Free Ontario Strategy in accordance with the Scopes of Services. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Health and Chronic Disease Prevention Services, the SW TCAN Manager will be a member of the Ministry of Health Promotion Community Action Working Group and will organize area monthly meetings and subcommittees for planning, project management, training, media relations, cessation and enforcement.
The position requires a Masters Degree in Health Sciences, Education, or Administration and at least three years experience in management. Extensive knowledge of tobacco use legislation, prevention, and cessation, along with tobacco control policies and programs is also required. This position involves work outside of normal business hours and regular travel between Health Units. The ability to communicate in French or other languages would be considered an asset.
