Children's Information Specialist, Canadian Child Care Federation

The Children's Information Specialist develops and maintains the children's group collection on a bilingual, government-led health information portal, the Canadian Health Network (see The Children's Information Specialist works closely with other team members.


  • The Children's Information Specialist is responsible for:
  • Working with collection development documents to build the collection and to identify collection gaps
  • Identifying appropriate health information on children's health and development, in English and French on the internet
  • Available to work at conference exhibits, trade shows and other public events
  • Evaluating the quality of health information by applying specific quality assurance criteria
  • Cataloguing resources in English and French using controlled and uncontrolled vocabularies and writing brief annotations to describe web resources
  • Accurately inputting data into a local database and a web-content management system
  • Assist with regular reporting and work planning
  • Other duties as required


This position requires

  • Fluency in English or French and the ability to read well in the second official language; complete bilingualism a strong asset
  • Demonstrated competence using Google and other search engines
  • Experience using databases (experience with Microsoft Access an asset)
  • Competence using MS Office, ease in learning new software
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to think critically and analytically
  • Ability to work well with and without supervision
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to ask questions
  • Experience working in both official languages
  • Experience cataloguing or indexing resources is a definite assetThe successful candidate will ideally have either:

A library-related diploma or degree with experience in a library or information management setting; OR A Bachelor's degree with experience in a library or information management setting

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week) until 31 March, 2008. (Possibility of an extension beyond 2008).

Compensation Type: Salary
Amount: $40,356 to $43,646
