Description of the Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, the role of the Director is to provide operational leadership to the programs and services area in the implementation of strategic priorities and the annual operational objectives. Working with each Manager, the Director is responsible for overseeing all activities in the identified subject and functional areas such as: Communications & Partnerships; Public Policy & Advocacy; Knowledge Translation & Exchange; and Safe Kids Week. In leading these subject and program areas, the Director will work with the appropriate manager in developing the approach, gathering research, developing strategic partnerships, developing tactics and strategies, fund development and communication with key stakeholders and sponsors in support of every initiative taken on by Safe Kids Canada. This role requires the management of teams and determining the financial and human resource (staff, volunteers, students) needs for each initiative. The scope of this role and the initiatives taken have an impact and reach at the international, national, provincial/territorial and community-based levels. The Director is also responsible for program implementation, employee performance and development, and resource allocations while ensuring organizational effectiveness and continued growth through sound fiscal and human resources management.
This is a Fixed term, Full-time (6 month contract) opportunity, 35 hours per week; Salary will commensurate with experience.
As the successful candidate you have completed a degree in health administration, health promotion, public health, nursing or epidemiology, with five or more years of recent related work experience. You are proficient with PC computers and the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Familiarity with File Maker Pro and Endnotes would be an asset. Working knowledge of injury prevention and trends and the ability to work in both official languages a definite asset. You have proven leadership and management abilities and have demonstrated excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy skills in the absence of established procedures and precedents and with your interactions with a wide variety of senior level people. You are able to handle a fast-paced work environment with many interruptions and are a team player with a flexible, high energy and goal-oriented work style. In addition you have experience with and understanding of health promotion, community development, social and cause-related marketing and prevention-oriented research.
