Are you a graduate-prepared nurse with a research focus on community health? Looking for a training opportunity to take your research career to the next level? Want to develop research networks that extend to Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean?
Canadian nurse researchers are invited to join nurse researchers from Kenya, Jamaica, Uganda, Barbados, and South Africa in the first annual "International Research Internship", hosted by the University of Ottawa. The intensive, full-time, two-month program will be held from June 2nd-July 31st, 2008, three weeks on-site in Ottawa followed by either on-site or distance education options for the balance of the internship.
The International Research Internship, led by Dr. Nancy Edwards (University of Ottawa), will build on the highly successful Canadian nursing research internship that was offered from 2001-2006. The focus of the 2008 internship is community health services and policy research. It will be of interest to nurses planning to pursue a research career with an international focus, working with colleagues in lower and middle income countries.
The program has been designed for graduate-prepared nurses at the early stages of their community health research career. You will
- Develop skills essential for competitive grantsmanship
- Develop strategic links with decision-makers
- Examine multiple intervention program design and evaluation issues
- Explore innovative approaches for enhanced research uptake
The cost is $1,200 (not including accommodation or travel). A limited number of bursaries may be available for Canadian interns to help offset costs.
