Lawrence Heights Community Health Centre and Rexdale Community Health Centre (the "Centres") provide primary health care, community development and health promotion programs to diverse communities in North Toronto and Etobicoke, respectively. The Centres are recruiting a researcher for their Pathways to Education Programs, to be shared between the two program sites. The primary goal of Pathways is to address social determinants of health by providing programs and services to enhance the educational and employment success of youth in the community. The programs work with high school students to improve school attendance and achievement.


  • Develop data collection instruments such as questionnaires, surveys, interview guides for focus groups and individual interviews (including students, parents, teachers, mentors and tutors) involved in the Pathways to Education program
  • Collect data through the administration of these instruments including conducting interviews, focus groups, and administering surveys
  • Analyze data using both quantitative and qualitative techniques to track, summarize and report student attainments and progress; and to understand and describe patterns among participants in the Program; including the participation and achievements of young people involved, and the perceptions of each group involved in the Program (e.g. students, parents, teachers, administrators, mentors, tutors, program partners, etc.)
  • Draft reports incorporating the range of program data, identifying implications for program design and improvement
  • Ensure documentation of all data sets (i.e. database with information on students, as well as on volunteer tutors and mentors) is complete and current


  • A graduate degree from a recognized university in a relevant field is preferred
  • At least 3 years progressive research experience with qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation methodologies (creating surveys, running focus groups, analysing quantitative and qualitative data etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge of community development, youth programming, education, research and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, marginalized populations within an urban context
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and to travel and share time between two sites/communities
