National Collaborating Centre on the Determinants of Health

"The Government of Canada's commitment to renew and strengthen public
health includes the establishment of the initial six National
Collaborating Centres for Public Health. One of the six Centres - The
National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health - will be
hosted by St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS.

"Partnering
with St. Francis Xavier University are: Guysborough Antigonish Strait
Health Authority, Cape Breton University, Cape Breton District Health
Authority, University of New Brunswick (Saint John campus), Atlantic
Health Sciences Corporation, the PEI Health Research Institute, the
Government of Prince Edward Island (Population Health), the Western
Regional Integrated Health Authority (NL), and Grenfell College....

"Building on regional expertise, the Centre will act as a national
catalyst for this key priority area in public health and contribute to
the development of a pan-Canadian public health strategy. The Centre
will complement the contributions of other organizations in the
pan-Canadian public health system, including the Public Health Agency
of Canada, the provinces and territories, academia and non-governmental
organizations.

"The Centre's first activities will
include cross-country focus groups and workshops with key individuals
and organizations to develop its vision, priorities and structure. It
will also complete an environmental scan to identify experts, best
practices and existing networks in the field of determinants of health.
Working with the National Collaborating Centre on Aboriginal Health,
the Centre will also establish linkages with key Aboriginal
organizations." [from the website]
