Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network
The Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network (CCPN) is a group of health and community partners from across the Champlain District of Ontario that is providing leadership to the implementation of a five-year strategy to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the Champlain District and ensure its residents are the most heart healthy and stroke-free in Canada.
Champlain Healthy School-aged Children Initiative
The Champlain Healthy School-aged Children Initiative is one of six CCPN Priority Initiatives. A working committee has formed to catalyze the development of a region-wide strategy aimed at enabling children (aged 4 to 18) living in the Champlain District to make healthy eating and physical activity part their daily habits. This will be achieved through a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach targeting home, school, and community environments. The School-based Policy Framework project is one activity being undertaken by the Champlain Healthy School-aged Children committee.
This project seeks to develop an overarching physical activity and nutrition policy framework for the 9 school boards and over 470 schools across the Champlain District. The overall goal is to establish an agreed upon approach to physical activity and nutrition policies that all 9 Champlain school boards can commit to implementing. This will be demonstrated by a formal declaration and "sign off" by all 9 school board directors.
This work will be conducted by external contract. The contractor will develop the school-based policy framework on behalf of the CCPN Policy & Environment Expert Panel and the Champlain Healthy School-aged Children committee. The contractor will work with the CCPN Project Management Team to ensure each phase of work is completed according to the proposed timelines and to the satisfaction of the CCPN leadership and Project Management Teams.
