The Department, Division and its Strategy:


Working within the Health Department (Public Health) and reporting to the Manager, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), you will support the Division's mandate to deliver programs related to comprehensive workplace health and the Ontario Public Health Standards.



The Team You Will Lead:


You will supervise a multi-disciplinary team that includes health promotion officers, registered nurses and dietitans, public health nurses, clerical staff and volunteers. The team provides a variety of services related the provision of comprehensive workplace health strategies. This includes providing workplace health consultation services, conducting on site employee risk assessment through the HeartMobile, developing and distributing materials and tools to increase uptake of comprehensive workplace programs and providing skill building initiatives.

Your Role:


As Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing program planning, implementation, and evaluation of a mix of health promotion strategies, encompassing individual and population wide interventions within the workplace program.  Organizational and administrative skills are essential. You will oversee program operations, ensuring efficient, effective utilization of resources. You will prepare and monitor the team budget, develop and implement business plans and annual work plans.  You will provide input in establishing performance targets and overall strategic and operational objectives for the program meeting Ontario Public Health Standards, The Service Strategy Business Plan, and BEST objectives.  You will build relationships with external agencies and community groups; participate on various provincial, departmental and interagency committees to coordinate the provision of services.


Coaching and mentoring skills are needed to build a high functioning team. You will be required to recruit, lead, motivate and evaluate a multidisciplinary team of professionals while ensuring efficient utilization of resources.  Strong problem solving and decision making skills are necessary for success.  You will ensure adherence to practices and standards set out in the Department's Service Strategy Business Plan and BEST (Building Employee Satisfaction Together) objectives


Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential in order for you to communicate effectively with your Manager, Director, Supervisory team, direct reports and other Departmental staff. Written reports must be technical, factual and statistically sound. You will be required to liaise with other public health jurisdictions, boards of trade, business professionals and community agencies throughout the region and province. Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential.

The successful candidate will hold a health related degree from a recognized university combined with a minimum of three years public health experience. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles, best practices and theories related to workplace health and health promotion is required. You must have a working knowledge of Regional policies/practices, Provincial standards and have excellent skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation. You will demonstrate strong research, analytical and presentation skills.
