Working Women Community Centre is a charitable, community settlement agency providing counseling, support groups, employment services, language skills, and employment training programs to immigrant women and their families throughout various locations in Toronto.

ACTION! (Active Communities in Toronto Increasing Opportunities for Newcomers) program creates opportunities for newcomers to become more aware and active in health and wellness activities across the city by bridging newcomers with new and existing recreation and fitness activities.

Position:     Program Coordinator
Status:      Part time (21hrs/wk - 12month contract with possibility of renewal)
Reports to:    Director of Programs & Services


  • Outreach with community based organizations
  • Work with community partners to integrate physical activities within
  • their existing programs
  • Develop and lead activity programs for Working Women's newcomer clients that encourage fitness and wellness
  • Develop a training manual for agencies regarding physical and wellness programs for newcomers
  • Identify and/or develop culturally appropriate supplemental materials
  • Work with community members to design training and support their leadership development in implementing locally based recreational and wellness activities
  • Strengthen linkages with existing recreation and wellness programs and services within the city and advocacy networks
  • Assist with evaluation and reporting on program results


  • 3 years experience working in the community based sector
  • Professional experience developing and implementing  wellness, recreation and/or health and fitness programs
  • Experience in neighbourhood outreach, developing partnerships, and working with newcomer and immigrant groups
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and/or the ability to work effectively with such communities
  • Experience in developing leadership/training materials for newcomer and/or marginalized populations and ability to adapt materials or approaches to address potential barriers
  • Knowledge of community resources regarding fitness, wellness and recreation in the City of Toronto
  • Certification in a health and wellness area is an asset (i.e. Yoga, Tai Chi, etc.)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and ability to work independently and within a team environment.
