University of Alberta
This conference aims to foster interdisciplinary scholarships by bringing together researchers, scholars and students to explore the connections between place and health. Participants will share their perspectives and investigate some of the following questions: How are health, sickness and place experientially grounded and socially constructed? How do experiences of ill-health and healing practices vary between places? How do shared experiences of affliction and healing help to constitute functional or imagined communities?
Keynote speakers include Joseph P. Gone, Department of Psychology and Program in American Culture (Native American Studies), University of Michigan and John V. Pickstone, Centre for History and Science, Technology and Medicine, University of Manchester.
