Supervisor, Youth Action Alliance, Region of Waterloo Public Health, Cambridge, Ontario
Temporary Full-time (for approximately 12 months)
Provides supervision and leadership to youth employed in the tobacco program and engages them in action-oriented activities to improve the health status of their community. Encourages and assists youth to develop the leadership skills necessary to work on policy-related tobacco control issues.
Provides leadership and facilitation to Youth Action Alliance project initiatives designed to involve middle and high school aged youth in tobacco control activities.
Facilitates the creation of peer education programs related to tobacco issues and the health risks associated with smoking and assists with the development of promotional media messages.
Involves key stakeholders in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of these initiatives.
Engages youth in community projects, coalitions, committees, and activities designed to assist them in developing problem solving, decision making, advocacy, negotiation, and analytical skills relative to policy development and issues of importance to youth.
Assists youth in developing job skills and job readiness.
Seeks to create opportunities to incorporate youth perspectives and involvement in other public health initiatives.
Builds youth leadership opportunities.
