Developing tomorrow's leaders is the number one human resource challenge facing today's organizations. And yet, most organizations lack a cohesive, proactive strategy for identifying and developing this critical capacity that will determine their future success -- perhaps even their future existence.

Survey on Board Governance Practices

Strategic Leverage Partners Inc. and the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development out of Carleton University and the University of Ottawa have developed a web-based survey that will form the base of a National Study of Board Governance Practices in the Canadian Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector. The results of the survey will be shared across sectors and organizations in order to assist nonprofit boards across the country in becoming more effective in their governance roles. The objectives of the study include developing a current snapshot of the context in which voluntary organizations in Canada are working, with a focus on the implications for board governance; determining the current state of non-profit board governance in Canada; identifying best practices in board governance utilized by Canadian voluntary organizations; and determining the best way to measure the accountability of non-profit organizations and the boards that govern them.

If you are either serving on volunteer Board of Directors or working in an organization with a Board of Directors, please fill the survey out from April 11 to May 11, 2005, and will take 30 minutes to complete. Your opinion is important to us and we appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey.

The survey can be found at (English) and (French).

For more information about the survey, please contact either Strategic Leverage Partners Sue Dallhoff or Grace Bugg or at the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development Paula Speevak-Sladowski or Tatyana Teplova.

This survey is being funded and supported by Bridgeway Foundation, the Canadian Educational Standards Institute, The Muttart Foundation, Volunteer Canada, the Institute of Corporate Directors, and the Ontario Hospital Association.
