Position Profile

Job Title: Black Community Outreach Co-ordinator
Contract Term: 1 Year Part time Contract (renewable up to 2 years)
Reporting to: Assistant Director, Community Investment
Location: United Way of Peel Region (UWPR)

Primary Focus: To engage and cultivate a relationship with members of the Black community and United Way of Peel Region.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Under guidance and in conjunction with the Assistant Director, Community Investment; provide administrative support to the Black Community Advisory Council (BCAC) of United Way of Peel Region
  • Develop an outreach strategy and implementation plan in conjunction with the Black Community Advisory Council (BCAC)
  • Explore and develop partnerships with identified community groups/stakeholders
  • Participate in cross functional and special projects as assigned
  • Identify and coordinate the production of all communication materials related to the specified community
  • Develop and maintain relationships with ethnic media and other key stakeholders
  • Participate as a member of the Community Investment Team and liaise with other member(s) of United Way’s Outreach Team

Working Hours P/T Position:

  • 21 hours per week, flexible, work from home
  • Evenings and weekends when necessary
  • One (1) year contract

Competencies:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Three to five years progressive and relevant experience within the non-profit, public or foundation sectors or relevant program management experience
  • Knowledge of the Black Community in Peel; knowledge of Peel Region and key stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated knowledge of outreach and engagement strategies into diverse communities
  • Demonstrated ability to procure sponsorships and develop and maintain relationships
  • Event coordination experience desired
  • Second language an asset

  • Proven ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Facilitation, group problem solving skills and excellent presentation skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills required
  • Commitment to the philosophy and objectives of UWPR
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and car
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
