Champion of Social and Economic Justice
In almost every aspect of his life Joseph E. Atkinson, publisher of the Toronto Star for 50 years, challenged Canadians to create a just, prosperous, safe and healthy society for everyone, no matter their circumstances. The Atkinson Charitable Foundation has been advocating and stewarding this vision through its mission “to promote social and economic justice in the tradition of our Founder.”
Each year the Foundation provides approximately $2 million in grants to charitable organizations, acting as both a funder and a catalyst for change in Ontario. The Foundation is seeking a new leader to carry on its groundbreaking work and continue to forge bold new initiatives to realize its mission. Three priority areas of interest are Poverty Reduction, Early Learning and Development, and the Canadian Index of Wellbeing. Two areas of emerging interest are Inclusion and Aboriginal Child Welfare.
To take on this leadership challenge, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, courageous and determined champion of social justice. Working with an engaged and dedicated Board, the Executive Director will play a leading role in developing strategy and direction for the Foundation, and inspire and develop an energetic and talented team. The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education with a focus on social sciences or equivalent; at least ten years as a recognized leader in civil society with a reputation for well-reasoned, non-partisan and evidence-based advocacy; a record of understanding and implementing inclusion policies and practices; lived experience in diverse cultures; and experience convening, brokering, communicating and capacity-building across various communities and constituencies.
To explore this wonderful opportunity to champion positive change, please forward your resume, in confidence, to Heather Connelly, Kinley & Connelly, Stanton Chase International (Toronto), [email protected].
The Atkinson Charitable Foundation is an equal opportunity Employer and welcomes and encourages candidates from diverse and multilingual communities.
