Canada’s largest and most diverse city is seeking a leader for its new Office of Equity, Diversity and Human Rights. Reporting to the City Manager, and working closely with the Deputy City Managers, Human Resources Division and City Divisions, the Director will develop, implement and report on progress in meeting the City's equity, diversity and human rights goals and objectives that maximize the talents of the City workforce and ensure that the City’s policies, services and programs continue to be responsive to the needs of all of Toronto's communities.
You will work with the City Manager, Executive Director, Human Resources, City staff, and provide advice and guidance to City Council, agencies, boards and commissions on the implementation of equity and diversity initiatives and activities to ensure a workforce that is diverse at all levels of the Toronto Public Service and that reflects the communities the City serves. You will also oversee the City's Toronto Public Service employment equity and Human Rights Office functions including ensuring education, training and the resolution of complaints under the City’s Human Rights and Anti-Harassment Policy. You will continue and enhance a program of diversity activities including supporting Accessibility activities, Access, Equity & Human Rights Awards, and a new Urban Aboriginal Strategy. You will initiate, champion and foster cooperative and productive working relationships across the organization with all internal and external stakeholders.
