Director, Information Technology Services, Middlesex London Health Unit

Reporting directly to the Medical Officer of Health/Chief Executive Officer, you are a key member of senior management as you contribute your technical and strategic thinking expertise. Your position requires significant initiative and an effective balance of corporate strategic thinking with day-to-day operational management. Your creative problem solving, positive thinking and customer service orientations enable you to harness the talents of those around you. Your superior communication skills are essential in creating and maintaining excellent relationships both internal and external to the Health Unit.

You will create an IT plan to ensure that computing, network and communication services are seamless and effective which will include setting standards to ensure the integration and future evolution of technology while optimizing the latest Information Technology initiatives.

You are an effective leader, able to motivate staff and provide guidance on strategic, tactical, technical and service delivery matters for a group of IT professionals. Your team will include: a Business Systems Analyst (new, to be recruited), a Data Analyst, three IT Specialists (Servers, Network & Voice, and Applications and Desktop), a Trainer and an Administrative Assistant.

As a leader, you will coordinate all aspects of automated systems and computer hardware to ensure the organization is receiving cost effective and efficient information systems and support. Our key technologies include Microsoft Office and Exchange/Outlook, SQL Server database management systems, numerous government-provided or other databases, Great Plains financial/accounting/payroll/HRIS software, Mitel phone systems (mixed IP and digital), Cisco network switches, VMWare, and ISA server.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is located at the forks of the Thames River in the heart of the London, also known as the Forest City, and home to the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College. London is the geographic center of Southwestern Ontario, strategically located at the junction of Highways 401 and 402, less than a two-hour drive from Windsor, Detroit, Toronto and Buffalo, and only an hour from the Grand Bend resort area on the shores of Lake Huron. The Health Unit provides an excellent work environment and a competitive compensation package.

Requirements: B.Sc. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, with at least five years of management/leadership experience; strong analytical and logical problem solving skills; strong interpersonal communication and relational skills, good organizational and project management skills; sound judgment; initiative; flexibility; wide range of experience with different computer environments and systems. Fluency in both official languages would be considered an asset.
