"Scaling-Up Urban Agriculture in Toronto: Building the Infrastructure," A Discussion on the Metcalf Food Solutions Papers, Toronto Urban Growers and Food for Talk

Toronto, Ontario
October 4, 2010

2:30-5:30 p.m.
Carrot Common, 348 Danforth Road, Room 212 (between Book City and Big Carrot)

Jointly with the Toronto Urban Growers (TUG), Food for Talk will be hosting a discussion around the Metcalf Food Solutions Paper on Urban Agriculture. The report was a collaborative effort between Joe Nasr, Rod MacRae, and James Kuhns. There has not yet been an opportunity since its release to have a public discussion of the report, and so the purpose of this gathering is to hold a discussion on this topic with the TUG members and the Food for Talk community. Come with ideas, questions, comments!

The report can be found at http://www.metcalffoundation.com/downloads/Metcalf_Food_Solutions_Scalin....

The theme of Urban Agriculture is the first that will be explored of the Metcalf Food Solutions papers. We hope that our future Food for Talk events will cover the other themes.

Hosting this meeting at the Carrot Common also gives us the privileged opportunity to visit the exciting rooftop project that is still in its final stages. This rooftop is intended to serve as a learning hub on productive green roofs. In addition to a tour of the rooftop, there will also be a short presentation by some of the members of the Carrot Common team.

For those interested in the powerpoint presentation from our most recent Food for Talk, please visit http://ryerson.ca/foodsecurity/foodfortalk/previous.html. This talk was delivered by Professor Makato Yokohari on “Agro-activities in the Fringe of Tokyo, Japan.”
