Reporting to the Manager of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, the Health Promotion Specialist will work within a multi-disciplinary team, utilising a research-based Population Health framework. The position will have a key role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs as they relate to health promotion and health protection from a Population Health perspective. The position will involve working inter-departmentally as well as with human resource professionals; union representatives; company representatives; health professionals from other public health units; NGO representatives; public servants; health promotion service providers; community groups; and community residents.
Key areas of responsibility include supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of assigned programs and requirements as outlined in the Ontario Public Health Standards (2008). The position requires in depth knowledge of the Population Health framework as well as knowledge of, and experience in, applied Health Promotion strategies in a variety of settings. Coordination of Health Unit programs and services with those of relevant groups and agencies in the community is a requirement across program activities. Creating and/or participating in relevant partnerships or coalitions are also required. The successful candidate must work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all policies and procedures of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
The position requires:
- A minimum of a Masters Degree in health promotion or a related field
- At least one year’s experience working in the area of Population Health Promotion
- A strong background in research, program evaluation, policy development, social marketing, and behavioural change
- Superior communication (written and oral), problem solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional computer software applications
- A valid Ontario Driver's Licence and access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours is required
- A criminal clearance certificate must be provided at the applicant’s cost.
- A working knowledge of the Ontario Public Health Standards and their protocols.
- Familiarity with the principles and standards of quality assurance programs (Best Practices, ISO, NQI, etc.)
- Competence in both official languages
