The Middlesex-London Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for a temporary full-time Public Health Nurse on the Young Adult Team, within Family Health Services. The successful candidate will provide programs and services in secondary schools and alternative education centres in London & Middlesex County. A major emphasis involves partnering with school communities and boards of education to offer comprehensive health promotion programs and services to youth. Comprehensive School Health (CSH) or Healthy Schools is a multifaceted approach that emphasises the creation of dynamic, collaborative partnerships among children and youth, parents, teachers, principals, school councils and community agencies concerned with the health and learning of children. Partnerships and healthy policies are integral within this health promotion approach.
Additional Youth Health Programs include adolescent prenatal and parenting programs, parenting education for parents of teens, facilitating teen support groups, counselling and consultation with youth and school community members on various healthy lifestyle issues.
Requirements for this position include current CNO registration as a Registered Nurse and a B.Sc.N. Candidates will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with teens in school settings, working with diverse youth populations, practicing youth engagement strategies, and having extensive knowledge of teen connectedness through social networking opportunities. The ability to communicate in French or other languages would be considered an asset.
