New federal and Ontario laws pose serious potential challenges for environmental groups that are incorporated either federally or provincially in Ontario. These statutes modernize corporate law governing not-for-profit corporations, but pose serious compliance challenges in terms of redrafting of bylaws, more onerous financial reporting and audit requirements, and member rights.
Lawyers Stephen Hazell and Sarah Jackson with Ecovision Law (http://www.ecovision-law.ca) will outline the key provisions of the new federal and Ontario statutes governing not-for-profit corporations and explain how NGOs can avoid pitfalls and keep compliance costs down. This session is designed for executive directors, officers, directors, staff, and legal counsel of not-for-profits corporations incorporated federally or provincially in Ontario.
