Position Summary:    

Under the direction of the Director, Health Promotion Department, the Public Health Dietitian is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team. The Public Health Dietitian applies nutrition expertise in determinants of health, health promotion and community development to support programming under the Ontario Public Health Standards, the Health Protection and Promotion Act and in keeping with the relevant requirements under the policies of the Corporation and approved budget.

The Public Health Dietitian identifies nutrition program priorities by reviewing existing epidemiological, behavioural and socio-demographic data, and through assessments of community assets and needs. The Public Health Dietitian maintains current knowledge of the nutrition literature and best practices and critically appraises research to assist with setting priorities, targeting programs and developing public health strategies for promoting nutritional health. Nutrition program activities include healthy eating, healthy weights and food security in a variety of sites (e.g., workplaces, schools, grocery stores, homes, community sites) and to a variety of groups (e.g., health professionals, new parents, etc.).


  • Completion of a four-year accredited undergraduate university program in foods and nutrition (or equivalent)
  • Completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship
  • Current registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Must possess liability insurance in accordance with College requirements

Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary As per the Collective Agreement
Benefits: As per collective agreement between Elgin St. Thomas Board of Health and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
