Temporary Full-time position (approximately 12-15 months)
Location: 99 Regina Street South, Waterloo, Ontario
Wage/Salary: $70,488.60 - $88,106.20 per annum ($38.73 - $48.41 per hour)
Provides epidemiological and statistical support to the Community Services Committee, the Medical Officer of Health/Commissioner, Public Health (MOH), various Public Health (PH) staff, Provincial Ministries and other external agencies, in the form of collection, analysis and interpretation of data necessary to meet Ontario Public Health Standards, applicable legislation, and prescribed regulations and standards. Supports the overall planning of PH by providing appropriate epidemiologic and socio-demographic information, analyzes mortality, natality, morbidity and risk-related statistics, and assists in the analysis and reporting of data using Provincial electronic data systems. Carries out surveillance and population health assessment activities, participates in research projects and develops epidemiologic databases. Regularly travels to various locations within the Region, and work is frequently performed to meet strict deadlines.
With advanced knowledge of epidemiological methodology, bio-statistics, and research and design, normally acquired through the attainment of a Master's degree in Epidemiology, you will also have relevant, progressively responsible experience in conducting epidemiological research in a public health setting. You are familiar with public health programming and the impact of social, economic and environmental factors on health, as well as relevant legislation, including Ontario Public Health Standards, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Proficient with computers, you are able to use Word, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), Statistical Analysis Software, Geographic Information Systems and Epi-Info, and have an understanding of computerized information systems and database management. The ability to compose reports, communicate effectively with Regional staff, MOHLTC and other external agencies will also be required.
