Position Title: Telemedicine Registered Nurse
Location: North Kingston Community Health Centre
Positions Available: 1-2
Position Type: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $58,617 - $70,629

Position Summary:

The Telemedicine Registered Nurse works as part of a regional program team of RNs and RPNs to help plan, implement, and provide direct clinical telemedicine services to clients throughout Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington counties. The Clinical Telemedicine Program, funded by the South East Local Health Integration Network (SE LHIN) will support the government’s commitment to preventing illness and injury, improving access to health care and specialist services, and responding to the needs of diverse communities.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Engage in service/program development of the clinical telemedicine program, including liaising with healthcare providers and patients, and being a champion and advocate for the program.
  • Support activities to initiate and build relationships, and identify organizational support needs, at Participating Coordinator Service Sites (PCSS) (patient host site).
  • Ensure operational functioning of the program, including acting as a liaison/point-of-contact for OTN and the primary patient host site(s).
  • Collaborate with Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN) Regional staff and consultants as appropriate.
  • Participate in training on an ongoing basis to maintain current knowledge base with respect to the field of telemedicine, including developing expertise in the use and care of equipment, awareness and implementation of OTN policies and procedures and training guides. Share this acquired knowledge.
  • Support the development of clinical policies and procedures, and implement clinical workflow processes.
  • Provide all needed logistical support for telemedicine consultations (e.g., book consultations, reserve and prepare rooms, ensure availability of information/records, materials and equipment, operate videoconference and peripheral equipment and provide basic technical support/troubleshooting. Understand internal policies and processes with respect to organizational support systems for clinical events, i.e., medical records, admitting/registration, privacy, patient consent, etc.)
  • Provide clinical support as needed, including preparing the patient and / or the Consultant for the clinical event, assisting with client presentation & examination as required for a full range of patient needs.
  • Ensure appropriate follow up, record keeping, statistics/reporting, and evaluation.

Qualifications:

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • 3-5 years of progressive clinical experience in a health care setting, including demonstrated experience working collaboratively with physicians and other allied healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent health assessment and clinical skills appropriate for scope of practice, and the ability to provide clinical support for patients with a wide variety of needs, including patients who may be unpredictable.
  • Basic understanding of the field of telemedicine, or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong computer skills and willing to use new technology, including experience with electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being an effective “team player”.
  • Aware of and sensitive to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate in a second language an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and above average attention to detail, including time-management skills.
  • Flexible, creative, innovative and ability to problem solve and prioritize issues as they arise.
  • Awareness of, and ability to support, provincial and federal privacy regulations
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis, meet the physical demands of the position.
  • This position requires access to a reliable vehicle, a valid Class G Licence, and a demonstrated safe driving record.
