The high prevalence of inactivity in Ontario calls for public health solutions that go beyond the individual to encompass social and physical spaces in which people live, work, learn, and play. A stronger emphasis on better community design is needed to increase physical activity. There is growing recognition that the integration of planning and public health approaches is essential for shaping and promoting active communities. This presentation will describe the development of three resources to guide active community design and facilitate the collaborative efforts of planning and public health professionals working in Ontario: a joint glossary of terms, a policy inventory, and a coordinated action framework.

Presenter: Dr. Kim Bergeron
