New Resource--Youth and Interactive Media, Games and Social Networks, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health

We live in a world of fast-paced technology and new media--consider the Internet, online gambling, text messaging, e-mail, voice mail, Facebook, Twitter, iPhones, iPads, iPods. We are all connected. Information of all kinds has never been easier to access, especially for youth. The Internet has become an important part of young people'€™s lives.

This new resource provides general information to increase awareness about healthy use of these technologies, as well as the risks of becoming overly involved and sometimes even dependent on their use. It encourages finding a balance in how and when we use interactive media, games and social networks.

Topics include:

  • factors that may lead to the development of a problem
  • tips for parents to teach healthy and safe use
  • where to get help.
