Epidemiologist – Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit - NU 26.13

The Epidemiologist provides epidemiological principles to the practice of public and community health planning. Duties include: expertise in data availability, collection, storage, retrieval, security and analysis; provision of in-house expertise in basic and applied research methodology, relative to public and community health; preparation of community health reports and assistance in the determination of health status and trends associated with the observed health status; monitoring of community health status and investigation and/or response to perceived or real health threats in the community with the goal of providing epidemiological and methodological assistance . The Epidemiologist will also provide consultation and education to Health Unit Staff and, where appropriate, to external agencies with respect to data collection and analysis, health planning, epidemiology, program evaluation and community health research. The position will manage assigned personnel as well as participate as a member of the Health Planning, Research and CQI Team.
    
Requirements: Master degree in Epidemiology or related discipline with at least 3 years previous related experience or the approved equivalent combination of education and related experience; excellent computer skills including Access and Excel, in addition to knowledge of epidemiology related software, e.g., SPSS; proven management skills along with excellent communication skills, both oral, written and e-mail; proven analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines; excellent interpersonal and team building skills as well as proven time/project management skills; a valid driver’s license & access to a reliable vehicle as travel is required.
