The purpose of this two-day intermediate level workshop is to develop skills in applying qualitative methods to program evaluation. The workshop is designed for participants with at least a basic knowledge of program evaluation but little or no specific training in qualitative methods. Participants will engage in a series of case based exercises that include:

  • designing an evaluation
  • structuring interview guides
  • conducting an interview
  • viewing or participating in a focus group
  • analyzing data, and
  • reporting

Quantifying qualitative data will be discussed. An overview of qualitative analysis software and a brief introduction to NVivo are included. This two day intermediate level workshop includes a combination of lecture, discussion, and hands-on experience with case studies. Completion of the CES Essential Skills Series, which is regularly offered by the Ontario Chapter, is highly recommended.
