I Introduction

It has been unsettling to update this list of health promotion and public health programs from 2007's OHPE 530 (http://www.ohpe.ca/node/8891) and see the disappearance of Centres for Health Promotion research, studies and degrees in health promotion. Only two universities in Canada now appear to offer degrees in health promotion: the University of Alberta and Dalhousie University, with the University of Toronto’s long-standing graduate health promotion program diminished to a “specialization” within a program on Social and Behavioural Sciences, itself within the school of public health.

This list includes programs in health promotion and public health. It does not include programs in global health, epidemiology, or community health, as those programs provide a different theoretical focus. It also does not include MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) as MOOCs in health promotion are still thin on the ground, but we will add such listings as we become aware of them. The National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health recently conducted a scan for online courses, in English and French, designed to increase knowledge and skills in working towards health equity through the social determinants.  A brief quality and relevance assessment was carried out for each course, resulting in 12 recommended courses. See the Distance and Online Education section for links.

Please send errors and updates to [email protected]. And good luck with your studies!

II Ontario Community Colleges

Most college programs are skills and practice focused on health services professions and fitness training. Some include a four-year Bachelor degree, others are diploma courses. The following Ontario colleges list has been divided between the unique health service programs and the fitness or lifestyle trainer programs.
