The Regional Municipality of Durham is seeking a Temporary Nurse Practitioner - Registered Nurse Extended Class (Up to 12 month contract).

Leading the way to a healthier Durham, it is the mission of the Health Department to excel at providing a diversity of health enhancing services that address the growing and changing needs of the community.

The Durham Region Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with Health Department staff, physicians and community partners as a member of the health care team, offering superior services in health promotion and health protection through primary and secondary prevention measures.

The successful candidate will perform duties within the scope of practice of an RN (EC) including conducting complete and focused physical assessments; communicating health findings and diagnoses; prescribing treatments and medications; and ordering laboratory tests, diagnostic ultrasounds and x-rays.  As well, they will provide health education and counseling related to identified health issues; consult and collaborate with other professional staff concerning clinical issues.

Other duties require the incumbent to provide training and functional guidance to professional staff and others; participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and protocols; develop and administer health care plans appropriate to client needs, including discharge planning and referral to healthcare and/or social agencies.

This position requires a solid communicator with excellent conflict management, negotiation, and computer skills; proven ability to maintain confidentiality and ethics; and ability to interpret and evaluate information in order to make appropriate clinical decisions.  Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention strategies, clinical therapeutics, community health care programs and agencies  are also required in this position.

The successful applicant will possess a Baccalaureate in Nursing and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (RN/EC). A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence is required. A current acceptable Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be required for this position as a pre-condition to employment.
