Play a vital senior leadership role in public health promotion and disease prevention
Chatham-Kent is a large, open municipality comprised of unique rural and urban communities, rich in history and culture, all of which share the benefits of being near water, and featuring affordable real estate, surrounded by some of the most fertile land in Canada. As the Municipality continues to cultivate growth shore to shore, it seeks a Director of Public Health to guide and direct all Public Health programs and services in keeping with Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Children and Youth, and Health Canada Public Health requirements, and priorities established by the Board of Health, with advice from the Medical Officer of Health.
The Public Health Unit oversees diverse areas, with a multidisciplinary staff providing public health programs and services to the citizens of Chatham-Kent in areas that include environmental health, infant and child health, chronic disease and injury prevention, and clinic services (sexual health, communicable and vaccine preventable diseases, and oral health). As Director of Public Health, based in Chatham, you will provide leadership and strategic direction to this unionized department, which works collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to ensure the health of the community.
Along with directing a division responsible for public health service delivery in the areas of assessment and surveillance, health promotion, health protection, and policy development, you will provide strategic expertise, support and research-based reports to the Board of Health and Chatham-Kent Council. In so doing, you will ensure that they have the information and tools needed to make timely, sound decisions regarding services and financial, administrative and other public health matters. This role would be an excellent career move for an empowering builder of high-performing teams of diverse professionals – a proven manager who maintains current knowledge of all provincial, federal and municipal legislation, standards, policies and guidelines, and collective agreements related to the provision and management of public health services.
Chatham-Kent is seeking a proactive, confident, politically astute leader with several years’ professional experience in health care policy administration, including executive, managerial and/or administrative supervisory public health responsibilities. Through a degree in a relevant discipline (preferably at the master’s level) and 6 to 10 years of related experience, or an equivalent background, you have honed your organizational, human resources and financial management skills. You are conversant with current and emerging public health issues, including infectious diseases, and are familiar with public health services and programs, as well as health and medical principles and practices.
This permanent, full-time position has an annual salary range of $98,629 to $116,154, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the OMERS pension plan.
