Breaking the Food Chains: Workers in the Food Production System Fight Back, will take place at Ryerson University in three installments:
Tuesday May 26th, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Tuesday June 23rd, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Tuesday July 21st, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
The series aims to spark a conversation on precarious labour in the global food system, and the ways in which workers have organized to improve their conditions. It will incorporate films depicting workers in food production and service in Canada and the United States, and each screening will be followed by a panel discussion that will aim to connect the struggles of workers in different contexts to the situation of food workers – and precarious workers in general – in present-day Canada. Critical engagement with movements from other times and places is a crucial part of developing the learning and strategic consciousness of workers, advocates, and students interested in contemporary issues of labour, food security, and social justice.
