Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, provides technical expertise and administrative collaboration necessary to ensure the effective and efficient planning, implementation and evaluation of selected programs (e.g. tobacco, heart health, healthy eating, injury and substance abuse prevention, early detection of cancer, physical activity, workplace health and skin cancer prevention) as required by government legislation and current standards of practice.

This position is one of the mangers in the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Division of Niagara Region Public Health. The manager oversees the Tobacco Control program. The manager is accountable for the strategic and day-to-day enforcement of the provincial Smoke-Free Ontario Act and its regulation and the Niagara Regional By-law 112-2013. This includes obtaining voluntary compliance through education and awareness-raising to ensure that business owners and the public are aware of the laws that apply to them. The Tobacco Control program manager also oversees tobacco cessation initiatives and actively participates in local, Central West Tobacco Control Area Network and provincial tobacco control committees and work groups.

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences/studies or related discipline
  • Master’s degree in Health Sciences/Education or Administration - Three to five years’ experience in public health and health promotion programming
  • Experience in a management/supervisory capacity is preferred
