Introducing Saying When: An innovative app to help people moderate or stop drinking, CAMH

Online
March 10, 2016

1:00-2:00 p.m.

Alcohol consumption is a significant population health issue in Ontario. While most people drink responsibly, drinking alcohol is associated with a variety of social and health harms. According to the 2013 CAMH Monitor, nearly one-in-four Ontarians who drink alcohol exceed Canada’s Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines (LRADG).

Saying When, an innovative app from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is designed to help people to cut down or quit drinking. The app is based on the Saying When: How to Quit Drinking or Cut Down self-help book, written by Dr. Martha Sanchez-Craig and published by CAMH. The book and the app are based on Dr. Sanchez-Craig’s ground-breaking, extensively researched program, which aims to help people understand and control their alcohol consumption. The app gives people an easy way to track drinks and urges to drink, to set goals and to show progress. The LRADG are included in the app to define moderate drinking and to support a goal of quitting or cutting down on alcohol consumption.
