February and March 2016
RNAO’s Tobacco and Nicotine Intervention Champions Workshops focus on integrating tobacco and nicotine evidence-based interventions into daily health-care practice.
These free, interactive, one-day workshops are intended for nurses and other health care professionals.
Workshop participants, based on the recommendations from RNAO’s best practice guideline ‘Integrating Smoking Cessation into Daily Nursing Practice’ will learn how to support clients to stop or reduce their tobacco and nicotine use. Participants will learn how to incorporate the 4A’s model of Ask, Advise, Assist and Arrange into practice. Topics of discussion will also include alternate forms of nicotine use (including e-cigarettes and hookah use), nicotine addiction and withdrawal symptoms, Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs), and motivational interviewing. Guest speakers from Smokers’ Helpline will speak about their current services and workshop participants will be provided with various RNAO, Leave the Pack Behind, and Smokers' Helpline Tobacco Cessation resources to support their knowledge transfer.
