The Coordinator, Traditional Services, supervises and coordinates the work of our traditional team ensuring that traditional programs and services are delivered to the community in a manner that supports and complements the vision, mission, beliefs and principles of Anishnawbe Health Toronto.
Responsibilities include assisting and supporting the Traditional Healers, Elders and Medicine People: planning, coordinating and facilitating traditional healing approaches such as fasts, sweat lodge, shake tent, sacred fire, naming, clan, and pipe ceremonies. You will also facilitate client access to the Traditional Healers and ceremonies, ensuring that protocols are understood and met. You will be expected to coordinate the gathering, preparing, and storing of traditional medicines and also coordinate access for community members, staff and Aboriginal youth to the learning experience of traditional healing approaches by scheduling volunteer and placement activities.
You will also coordinate travel requirements and accommodations for the Traditional Healers; assist with the compilation of a database, program reports, budgets and submissions; recording and entry to the electronic medical records and advise on the recruitment of Traditional Healers and Traditional Helpers.
As Coordinator you will demonstrate commitment and respect to the practice of Traditional Healing approaches; have a positive, professional,courteous and respectful manner with a desire to assist people find their healing path; and possess skills and knowledge of program planning methods. An understanding and knowledge of the health needs of the urban Aboriginal population, as well as demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the culture, traditions, teachings, ceremonies and practices of Aboriginal people are definite assets.
