Fire and Ice: The United States, Canada and The Myth of Converging Values

As president and co-founder of the Environics group of research and communications companies, Michael Adams oversees one of Canada's largest and most sophisticated research houses, with offices and affiliates in Canada, the United States and Europe. He has published numerous articles and is a frequent commentator on social and political trends in the print and broadcast media.

In Fire and Ice, Michael Adams argues that, contrary to popular belief, Canadians' values not only clash with their southern cousins, but they are diverging even further. Michael Adams challenges the "myth of inevitability" that has led us to believe our Canadian way of life is doomed to extinction. Drawing upon a decade of never before released research from both sides of the border, he reveals that Canada and the US are not coming together but are diverging in significant ways. Michael will also explore the implications of this research to social change, donor behaviour and other issues critical to the voluntary sector.

The forum will be held at the Downtown Toronto YMCA, just north west of College and Yonge streets. If you want to attend, please pre-register by providing your name and affiliation to Shehrina at [email protected]. A continental breakfast will be provided and copies of Fire and Ice will be available for sale.
