North America's First Sexual Health Clinic Celebrates 70th Anniversary

Planned Parenthood Society of Hamilton will celebrate its 70th anniversary at the Chamber Club (555 Bay Street North) in Hamilton.

The celebration will feature Sue Johanson, the dynamic and humourous sex educator, registered nurse, host of the Sunday Night Sex Show and author of Sex is Perfectly Natural But Not Naturally Perfect. Sue, who formerly worked in a Planned Parenthood Clinic, will bring her frank wit that TV audiences have come to appreciate and provide an entertaining evening. A cocktail reception will follow with live music provided by local jazz/soul singer Sharon Musgrave.

Diane Brunetti, Chair of the event looks forward to the celebration: "The 70th Anniversary of the Planned Parenthood/Dr. Elizabeth Bagshaw Clinic is a very special occasion because it is North America's first birth control clinic and it is still going strong." The founder and first medical director, Dr. Elizabeth Bagshaw strongly believed that contraception was an important part of preventative medicine and that women had a right to respectful and confidential sexual health services.

Tickets for the 70th Anniversary event are $25.00 in advance from Bryan Prince, Bookseller (1060 King Street West in Westdale) or by phoning, (905) 528-3009. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door for $35.00.
