The Social Capital Community Benchmark Survey

From the website: "In the survey, we look at how connected we are to family, friends, neighbors and civic institutions on a local and national level. These connections -- our Social Capital -- are the glue that hold us together and enable us to build bridges to others. This project will assist residents in each of our local communities as they work to build stronger communities and strengthen community bonds."

This survey, the largest of its kind, was administered to over 30,000 Americans by three dozen community foundations, other funders, and the Saguaro Seminar of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Results are available on the site. The survey instrument is also available at http://www.cfsv.org/communitysurvey/docs/survey_instrument.pdf, and they encourage other communities to use it.

Better Together, an initiative of the Saguaro Seminar, is providing follow-up to the survey at http://www.bettertogether.org/, through reports and the collection of stories from people who are "connecting with each other and creating social capital."
