Intake Worker, Emergency Food Hamper Program


The House of Friendship Emergency Food Hamper Program provides food assistance to persons in need of food living in Kitchener and Waterloo and area. The Program assists more than 18,000 different persons annually.



General Duties/Responsibilities

1. Responsible for handling inquiries from persons requiring emergency food assistance

2. Responsible for clerical duties including data entry

3. Responsible for reception duties

4. Responsible for working with volunteers

5. House of Friendship organization responsibilities



Qualifications

1. Strong interest in working with low income people is necessary

2. Experience or educational background in social services, social work or community development would be an asset

3. Cultural sensitivity to people from various ethnic backgrounds

4. Supportive approach to working with persons with mental health issues

5. Patient, dependable, compassionate, tolerant and positive attitude

6. Interest in food issues and knowledge of community resources

7. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access

8. Community service work or experience working with volunteers would be an asset

9. Good interpersonal skills and a team player

10. Ability to support and promote the mission and philosophy of House of Friendship



Position Details

Full time days Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week



Starting Pay Rate

$22,000 to $23,000 plus benefits
