Electronic Communications Specialist, Social & Public Health Services Department, City of Hamilton


The City of Hamilton is an award-winning, model sustainable community with many amenities. We currently have an opportunity with our Social & Public Health Services Department for an Electronic Communications Specialist.



Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Information Services, the Electronic Communications Specialist develops, coordinates and manages conceptual framework and architecture for the development of Social & Public Health webpages, ensuring the site meets program and services mandates. The position will develop, coordinate and manage the conceptual architecture for a knowledge management departmental intranet site to support learning and information sharing across the department.



The position will coordinate with end users to develop strategies that ensure web pages and departmental intranet site are accessible and used to their full extent. The Specialist will research, analyze and manage implementation of electronic communications strategies, including departmental policies, interactive web-based health education interventions, on-line certification training for service providers, on-line community support groups, on-line training and networking for staff. The position will research and analyze methods to improve online accessibility, monitor visitor experience and analyze web-site traffic.



You will have demonstrated experience in health infomatics, electronic communications and strategy development normally acquired through the completion of a post graduate degree in infomatics, information studies, library science, marketing, business, social science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You have sound knowledge of the web and, in turn, are very effective at communicating through this medium, with a thorough understanding of the potential uses for electronic information via the internet and intranet.



You must have superior verbal and written communication and project management skills which are coupled with innovative thinking and strong problem-solving skills. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of web-based applications Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, internet design, good understanding of HTML or similar formatting/text publishing tools (FrontPage2000) are essential.
