Executive Director, CentreAlphaPlusCentre


Located in Toronto, CentreAlphaPlusCentre is a non-profit corporation that provides resources, research and e-learning tools for literacy and basic skills learning programs for adults. Currently funded by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and the National Literacy Secretariat of Human Resources Development Canada, the Centre is Canada's leading information and resource specialist in literacy, providing services to individuals and organizations in the Anglophone, Francophone, Native and Deaf communities.



In the past decade, CentreAlphaPlusCentre has improved and expanded its programs, strengthened its staff capacity and flexibility and moved from being a provider of research information to teachers and learners throughout the province to specialization through an emphasis on innovative, ongoing project-based e-learning programs.



We are seeking an Executive Director to direct and oversee the activities of this vibrant and growing organization. This is an exciting new era of change for AlphaPlus that requires an experienced and energetic person to lead the organization as it moves forward and develops its national literacy profile.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader with a record of successful senior management experience in the not-for-profit sector and one with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. S/he must have demonstrated experience in leading an accomplished and diverse staff in a project-management environment where change is constant; and developing and managing a mix of funding activities and securing a broad base of support from both public and private stakeholders, as well as being committed to outreach and advocacy programs to raise the profile of AlphaPlus in the literacy communities.



Experience in strategic planning, financial management and community and government relations is essential, as is a commitment to equal opportunity and diversity issues. Assets include experience in managing in a unionized environment and working with a volunteer Board of Directors, as well as experience or exposure to adult education and literacy issues and fluency in both French and English.
