Public Health Nurses, Communicable Disease Division, Peel Health

Public Health Nurse - Immunization Services & Call Centre (PHN#06-02)
Regular full-time & temporary full-time (12 months) opportunities

As a key member of our Communicable Disease Division, you provide
education and referral in answering all calls received at the
Divisional Call Centre related to communicable diseases and sexual
health.  You also develop and maintain linkages with other health
professionals and agencies (e.g. physicians, area hospitals, schools
and school boards, multicultural organizations, etc).  As well,
you maintain appropriate documentation on the computerized data base
and ensure correct data collection.  You may also review, develop
and maintain the content on the regional website and provide clinical
nursing skills, including immunizations as required at various clinic
sites throughout the region.  You contribute to the assessment,
planning and development of the call centre.  Preference will be
given to applicants who have knowledge, skills and/or some experience
with

  • telephone assessment and counseling related to sexually transmitted infections, immunization and communicable diseases
  • the current immunization schedules in Ontario, vaccine safety and handling

Public Health Nurse - Communicable Disease Control (PHN#06-04)
Temporary:  approximately twelve (12 months)

As a key member of our Communicable Disease Control Team, you
investigate communicable diseases, provide knowledge of infection
control practice and perform case management.  You also develop
educational support materials and deliver educational sessions to the
community and health related professionals.  As well, you develop
and maintain linkages with health professionals and agencies (e.g.
doctors' offices, local hospitals, schools, long term care facilities,
multicultural organizations).  Preference will be given to
applicants who have knowledge, skills and/or some experience with

  • Project/program planning and evaluation
  • Group presentations/facilitation

Additional preferences for both positions are knowledge, skills and/or some experience with

  • communicable disease investigation techniques
  • Peel's diverse community
  • computers in order to use specific databases, web site research and content development

A summary of essential qualifications  

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalency as recognized by a Canadian University
  • Current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Strong assessment, counseling, organizational, planning and presentation skills
  • Able to travel to various locations throughout Peel Region
