New HPRP Policy Research Report

The Applied Research and Analysis Directorate is pleased to announce
the release of the final reports of the HPRP projects entitled A Decade
of Change: An Investigation into the Health and Social Wellness of
Newfoundland and Labrador Communities Pre and Post Moratorium.

The objective of this research project was to describe the changes in
community well-being following the moratorium on cod fishing in
Newfoundland and to identify factors that explain the variability of
community resiliency.

This project was a step forward in exploring the use of administrative
data to describe the impact of a major economic change on health and
social well-being at the community and regional level. The process
developed by the research team could be used for comparable studies in
other jurisdictions and could assist decision makers in better
addressing the health care needs of communities impacted by economic
circumstances.
