Epidemiologist, Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has an opening for
a full-time, permanent statusm, Epidemiologist (non union position) in
our Brockville Office.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is a fully
accredited public health agency, committed to continuous quality
improvement.  With a head office in Brockville and four branch
offices throughout the tri-county area, the LGL District Health Unit
delivers legislated public health programs and services to
approximately 159,100 residents in a primarily rural area, located
between the cities of Kingston and Ottawa.  To learn more about

Under the direction of the Medical Officer of Health, the
Epidemiologist is responsible for providing consultation to health unit
staff and partners; monitoring and reporting on the health status of
the community; assisting with the planning and evaluation of Health
Unit programs; and providing leadership on the critical appraisal and
interpretation of the research literature.  Other responsibilities
may include  participation in community-based research and
epidemiological studies, communicable disease epidemiology, and
participation in broader initiatives, such as benchmarking activities
and the Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS).

Qualifications Required

  • Masters of Science degree in Epidemiology or equivalent discipline
  • A minimum of one year experience in community health; experience in a public health setting is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in epidemiological and statistical methods
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in computer and data management, including the use of computer systems, such as SPSS
  • Experience in applied community-based research and communicable disease epidemiology are assets
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the
    ability to report and present data and other public health evidence
  • Ability to function independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, within tight timelines
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Criminal record check

Annual Salary: $58,036 to $68,278, excellent benefits, including four (4) weeks vacation
