Health Promoters (2), Sudbury & District Health Unit

The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) is a progressive,
accredited public health agency committed to the concepts of workplace
wellness.  With a head office in Sudbury and four branch offices
throughout the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, the SDHU delivers
legislated public health programs and services under the leadership of
the Medical Officer of Health and governance of the Board of Health.
The SDHU is designated as one of five provincial teaching health units
and is affiliated with Laurentian University.

The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) has an exciting
opportunity available for a dynamic Health Promoter. Reporting to the
Program Manager, the Health Promoter is an integral member of a
multidisciplinary team. The Health Promoter applies their expertise in
determinants of health, health promotion and community development to
support programming under the Mandatory Health Programs and Services
Guidelines and the Health Protection and Promotion Act. The Health
Promoter identifies program priorities by reviewing existing
epidemiological, behavioural and socio-demographic data, and thorough
assessments of community assets and needs. The Health Promoter
maintains current knowledge of the literature and best practices and
critically appraises research to assist with setting priorities,
targeting programs and developing public health strategies.

Interested applicants must have a Masters degree in health promotion,
behavioural science or a related discipline and experience in health
promotion, community mobilization, program planning, implementation and
evaluation. The applicant will have a minimum of two years experience
in group facilitation techniques and a strong understanding of the
principles of population health, determinants of health, community
development, social marketing, communications strategies and policy
development. A satisfactory criminal reference check is required. The
successful candidate must have access to a reliable vehicle and a
current Ontario driver's licence.
