Full-time Permanent Position
The Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU) is a progressive,
accredited public health agency committed to the concepts of workplace
wellness. With a head office in Sudbury and four branch offices
throughout the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin, the SDHU delivers
legislated public health programs and services under the leadership of
the Medical Officer of Health and governance of the Board of Health.
The SDHU is designated as one of five provincial teaching health units
and is affiliated with Laurentian University.
The Sudbury & District Health Unit has an exciting opportunity for
a health promotion worker within its Health Promotion Division. Your
ability to work effectively and to collaborate as a member of a
multidisciplinary team is essential. You will focus on building
community relationships, networks and coalitions. You will provide
consultation specific to health promotion and support to health
promotion programs and community development initiatives. As a health
promotion worker, you will assist in planning, developing, implementing
and evaluating health promotion programs, services and projects in
collaboration with staff and community partners to achieve the goals
and objectives of the program. You will assist with the implementation
of appropriate health promotion interventions utilizing skills in
social marketing, media relations, innovation, intersectoral planning,
and building community relationships. You have the ability to deliver
presentations to diverse audiences. You will also help train volunteers
and peer educators.
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational
and computer skills. Good communication skills, both written and oral,
are required, along with an ability to work with minimal supervision.
You require a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle. You must
be willing to work irregular hours on occasion.
You will have a bachelor's degree in health promotion or other health
and social services related field from an accredited university
program. A minimum of one year of volunteer or work experience in a
related field is preferred. Experience with nutrition, physical
activity and sun safety is an asset. Fluency in both official languages
